Conical head nails

The conical headed nails, made of hardened steel or brass, are used in shoemaking and are particularly suitable for fixing heels and irons on heels. They feature a cylindrical shaft topped with a conical head, made of steel or brass for high-end footwear. They are used to improve the abrasion resistance of leather tips (beaten grain).

How to choose the right conical head tip?

- Choose the metal and finish of the nail: polished steel | hardened steel | copper-coated steel | brass
- Choose the length of the nail from those proposed for each metal, between 14 and 30 mm

Usage tips

Draw a line parallel to 5 mm from the edge of the heel. Mark the location of the nails with a fork, insisting to form a pilot hole. Place the nail in the first hole. Drive it in slightly inclined, the tip towards the center of the tip, then, with a sharp blow of your hammer, straighten the nail by driving it in so that the head is flush with the surface of the tip. The perfectly aligned heads and of the same level, practically touch each other (FFCM, 2023).
