Characteristics:
This hammer is available in three variants:
No. 2 = 620g: head + handle = 235 mm long / head length 175 mm
No. 5 = 430g: head + handle = 230 mm long / head length 145 mm
No. 7 = 220g: head + handle = 230 mm long / head length 125 mm
It consists, on one side, of a wide cylindrical head with a smooth and slightly domed striking surface, and on the other side, of a peen that allows for light blows on the vamp (or toe) when it forms creases after assembly.
The beating hammer, also called a cobbler's hammer, is the most commonly used by cobblers but also by saddlers.
Its function is to beat for heavier materials or to fold the leather.
It is primarily used to tighten the leather fibers but also to assemble the outsoles and heels.
Through repeated blows, this hammer removes air after gluing the sole to the lining or the heel to the outsole of the shoe.
